Williamsport, PA – May 7, 2006 – The banquet to honor Frank Girardi on his 250 victories as Lycoming College’s Football Coach, held this past winter at the Genetti Hotel and Convention Center, raised $4,000 for the charity Coaches vs. Cancer, announced Lodge 138 President, Sam Aloisio.

Phillip E. Preziosi, Sons of Italy’s Pennsylvania State Chairman for Coaches vs. Cancer, and Tony DiSalvo proudly displayed the symbolic $4,000 check from Williamsport’s Original Ufficiale Bersaglieri Lodge 138. Preziosi and DiSalvo were cochairmen of the event. DiSalvo initiated the idea to honor Williamsport’s Frank Girardi and solicited the Girardi family’s involvement during the entire proceeding.

Coach Girardi was delighted to find out that all of the proceeds would go directly to Coaches vs. Cancer.

At a National Convention in August 2005, the Sons of Italy Foundation adopted the Coaches vs. Cancer charity. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fund-raising activities and advocacy programs.

Coaches vs. Cancer provide critical mission outreach, education, advocacy and community service efforts. The program has raised more than $25 million since its inception in 1993 to benefit the Society’s mission.
